Anyone that has been to Hamilton Island will instantly know it’s like a location out of a movie, but how many realise Hamilton Island has actually been the star of many of Hollywoods blockbusters!
For the Matthew McConaughey & Kate Hudson fans, Hamilton Island was a location for the 2008 comedy hit film, Fool’s Gold.
While the film was about their treasure hunting trip in the Bahamas, some of the shots were filmed at the gem of a location at Hamilton Island!
The 1989 thriller Dead Calm, starring Australia’s Hollywood starlet Nicole Kidman, and Sam Neill was also filmed around the Whitsunday Passage, and those with a keen eye will recognise many of the spots when they watch the film.
A special soundstage was even designed and built for the the shoot.
One of Australia’s all time favourite films, Muriel’s Wedding also used the beautiful backdrop prop of Hamilton Island as the location for the Honeymoon.
For those viewing the movie you’ll recognise Hamilton Island’s swimming pool behind the stars!
And then there is the Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, in which Sabrina travels Down Under in the 1999 adventure which sees the teen witch dining on the Great Barrier Reef, and gets the perks of staying on Hamilton Island while filming! Not a bad film role if you can get it!
