The Whitsundays region is very popular with both local Australian visitors as well as international tourists, with our Whitsunday Apartments website receiving daily bookings from visitors from Spain, Germany, China and the USA that want to visit the Whitsundays region, especially beautiful Hamilton Island.
The biggest enquiry we receive is about the Whitsundays airport and where is it located.
Well, the Whitsundays is actually serviced by two airports in the Whitsundays region…the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island Airport (HTI), and also the Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP), which funnily enough is not actually on the Whitsunday Coast at all but approximately 30 minutes away in Proserpine.
Hamilton Island’s airport is definitely the more spectacular of the two if you want to embrace the amazing views as you fly into the Whitsundays, in particular if you are planning on staying on Hamilton Island or one of the other islands in the region, such as Hayman, Daydream or Long Island.
Serviced daily from most capital cities in Australia, the Hamilton Island Airport is serviced by Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Qantas Link, and then Cruise Whitsundays offer ferries from Hamilton ISland to transfer guests and visitors to Airlie Beach and the other island resorts.
The Whitsunday Coast Airport is serviced by Virgin Australia and Jetstar and also offers daily flights from Brisbane as well as other connecting cities. You may need to organise a bus or a taxi to transfer you from the airport to Airlie Beach, and if you plan on getting to Hamilton ISland, then you’ll also require a Ferry transfer, so all up a much longer trip than landing direct on Hamilton Island.
